What the registers prove and do not prove

Help others check immigration providers. Lesson 1, 14 min.

When you help someone else, you carry the risk of a wrong check. Know what a register can show.

A snapshot, not a live feed

Each register is a dated document. The roster this site used was updated on 2026-10-18 and retrieved on 2026-10-20. The pro bono list is published quarterly, in January, April, July and October, and this site used the October 2026 list. A listing on this site shows the date the site checked it. The original register can be newer.

What the roster shows

According to the site's notes, the roster gives each organization's name, office address and phone. The roster says each organization is responsible for keeping its contact information current. So a phone number can be old, and a missing website is normal.

What the pro bono list shows

The EOIR page, updated 2026-09-24 and checked on 2026-11-04, says the list names non-profit organizations, attorneys and pro bono referral services. This site shows only the non-profit organizations marked with an asterisk. A provider can be on the full list and not on this site. The page also says the list is not for soliciting paid legal services, and that EOIR does not endorse the providers on it.

What a listing does not prove

  • It does not prove the provider is good, has space or fits the case.
  • It does not prove that each staff member may give legal advice. The guides say to check the person who handles the case.
  • It does not promise a result.
  • It does not replace the original register.

Paid plans

The site's guides say a paid plan adds a badge and a place higher on the page. The provider type and contact facts always come from the public source. A badge is not a reason to skip a check.

Missing from the site

If a provider is not on this site, that is not proof of a problem. Check the original registers and the state bar before you decide.
